8 in a box

As you may or may not remember....I am a Crayola Crayon freak. Here is a thread from two years ago to help jog your memory...it includes other threads on the matter.

So for Christmas I got this cool artsy deal from Marjorie and Corban. Corban wants it to go in my office at the church. Not sure how we're going to hang it. We'll see. It's much brighter in person...stupid cell phone picture!

I also just found this amazing artist named Diem Chau who does tiny detailed art out of Crayola. The detail she's able to produce in one tiny crayon is ridiculous to me. If you don't believe me hold a crayon in your hand while looking at these pictures. Crayons are small! You can commission her to do one of these for you........for 250 bucks! Check this stuff out! This first set was for a wedding. This is the actual couple in their wedding attire.

























Here's a set she made for her contractor. It's him, his pregnant wife (notice baby bump) and dog.
In this commission she used a color called Razzle Dazzle Rose...which she said is very soft to begin with and she had to put her hands in cold water regularly to not make the crayon too soft for working with. Also check out the cool bases that you get for your 250!



She also did this super rad set for Nike. Nike commissioned 66 crayons (11 sets of 6) to promote their gear for the World Cup in 2010. Nike did the bases and all the print stuff and she did the crayons. They also picked the colors.

CRAYOLA HOLY COW!!!!

Maybe you've already seen this floating around the web. This blew me away in so many ways....(pun intended)

A guy made Crayola(TM) Rockets. Like really big ones. They launched out of a "box" that he created. There were 8 Crayons. Only 4 of them actually ignited.

Yet another amazing Crayola experience. You really should check his site for more pictures including how he created them and even down to choosing the proper paint to match the original box of 8 colors!!!!!

More Crayola stuff

I've mentioned before that I am a lover of Crayola. (Here and here) As we moved, I compiled the Crayola stuff I own into a giant box. I have mint condition, special edition crayons. I have a crayon maker. I have a limited edition Crayola truck with crayons in it. I don't even remember how I started collecting Crayola stuff!

So I found this the other day. A guy took the wikipedia list of Crayola colors and put it in the chart form. Pretty wild expansion of colors through the years. He figured there's an annual growth of 2.56%. The number of colors doubles every 28 years. By 2050 there should be 330 different colors. Now THAT's a big box!

Random Saturday

-A couple weeks ago I said that I was going to start carrying around a little notebook. I did. It's been working really well. So last weekend we went on a long weekend to Canada. When we got home I couldn't find it. I found it.........as I pulled it out of the back pocket of some shorts that had already gone through the wash!

-One of the most recognized voices in NHL broadcasting is Mike "Doc" Emerick. He has done the Play-by-Play for A LOT of big hockey games. He's all over the place. So for whatever reason I wikipedia'd him. So yeah...he taught broadcasting at Geneva College at one point!

-Most of us use Wikipedia at least occasionally right? Well what if Wikipedia was a real encyclopedia. Artist Rob Matthews wanted to find out. He printed out all the featured article on Wikipedia and bound them in a giant book. Remember these are only the featured articles.

-We live in a modern world. This story killed me though....Police investigate underage drinking...dude takes off on a 3 mile chase...driving his horse and buggy. No need for a chopper to follow this one. It's not like they were going to ram him. The best part is that this is like one county over and up from us. Awesome.

-In other news of the stupid....a woman in California sued Pepsi (parent company?) because she found out that there weren't any actual berries in Crunchberry cereal. Um yeah. This is for real. Luckily it was thrown out. The judge said anyone with any common sense would've know there are no berries. In other news....the judge said however that Frankenberry was the only cereal with real berries (not really).

-I hope the person who started this Tumblr keeps it up. It rules. It's pictures of people who should be happy but who forget to smile. Pretty funny.

-What if we could just summarize hours of watching a movie into 3 frames of hand drawn art? That would be great. Think of all the time we'd save. How about it. 3 Frame Movies. I like Star Wars.

-For the crayon freak in me....washable crayon rings.

Random Saturday

-I find it funny that the number of people stopping by to see my blog on Saturday is much higher than other days of the week.

-There are a bunch of very specific blogs out there. Like super niche markets. ANYWAY...most of them are dumb or lame or just plain crazy...or all of the above. For some reason I find this one funny. Basically a guy sets up a camera all over the place, sets the 2 seconds delay and tries to get as far away from it as possible. So I guess it's just a bunch of pictures of a guys back side.

-My buddy Brandon (that's a link to his blog that he rarely updates) started a NCAA basketball fantasy bracket. We win nothing. We pay nothing. I know very little about college basketball. I filled out a bracket. It's amazing that just by doing that....I instantly almost care about the tournament this year!

-So I'm getting dumber. Once again this doesn't come as a shock to me. Just that there is now proof to back it up. I'm pretty pleased. Male brains start to decline around age 27...so basically I have no hope.

-This was all over the news this week. Some teenagers in Spain launched a balloon with a camera and some scensors into the stratosphere. They were able to take some amazing pictures of earth. The cool part is that they did it for around 80 dollars US. Now that's a science fair project I can get behind!

-This is something I found awhile ago and think it's really really cool. However I live in a part of the world that won't facilitate my involvement very much. The concept is simple. Take a picture using a digital camera. Take the digital card out and leave it where it'll be found....and then track the results on their website. It's called Photochaining. I'm contemplating starting a card here. Please let me know if you start one of your own. Let's get it going!

-You may or may not know this...but I am a Crayola freak. I have a GIANT collection of special edition crayon packs, a crayon maker, a Crayola truck, etc. Like...a lot. Since Crayola is celebrating 50 years of the box of 64, they came out with a new special box of 64. They asked students to name 8 new colors. I love promotions like that. The kids had some great colors: Giving Tree, Famous, Fun in the Sun, Best Friends, Super Happy, Happily Ever After, Bear Hug and my personal favorite....AWESOME.
