Varying views of Stay-At-Home Dads...and Something Else

Apparently we go to hell.

Or you can learn how to put a pony tail into hair....not exactly applicable for me.

This is for real people. I can't watch this without laughing hard....and I've seen it quite a few times.

Bah! Video Posts

This past Saturday I posted a video of a lady and a guy pretending to shoot guns. The lady just kept saying Bah. Feel free to go back and watch it again. I watch it often. Every time I do I laugh. It was a casting session for this video that never was released because it was too "violent".

Well the lady in the casting video has gathered a following. While wasting time tonight I found these. Enjoy.

Where I Live: Winter Blah

It's late January. I haven't seen the sun in.......well I'm not sure. I obviously haven't posted anything for awhile. I'm in a funk.

I've grown up here. I knew what I was getting into when I moved back here. I don't complain about the weather. I hate when people who have lived here 30-40-50 years complain about snow. If it's a problem, move. Every year it snows. Every year it gets cold. Every year we don't see the sun for a LONG time. I don't complain about the weather.

The little chunk of PA that we live in sees the less sunlight than most of the US. Literally. So people deal with the winter blah's a little more than normal.

I don't mind snow. I like it actually. It's pretty. It's fun to play in. Great for sledding. It's useful for throwing at teenagers. I'm not a fan of extreme cold. I have poor circulation in my hands and feet, so the extreme cold kills me, but whatever.

Today was annoying though. Corban bugged me all day to go sled riding. We couldn't until Marjorie got home from work to watch Tobiah. So as she walked in the door, we walked out. I love sledding. I always have. The cold wind rushing past your face as you slide down the hill. Laughter usually ensues.

We currently have just shy of 2 feet of snow. It's big fluffy stuff. Not good for throwing snowballs or making snowmen. Not bad for sledding...........normally. Remember that Corban is only about 3 1/2 feet tall. So unless he's walking behind me, he really struggles to walk through it.

Now the way sledding works (for those living in fairer climates) is that your sled kind of skims the top of the snow. When Corban and I sat down on the sled we sank a foot down into the snow. Luckily there was a little bit of a rut from someone who had bee on the hill the day before....otherwise we would've gone nowhere. Coming back up the hill.....there was no option at all.....I HAD to pull him behind me on the sled. His little legs would've never made it.

I don't mind the snow. I know that we're not done with it by a long shot. It's kind of silly when you can't even use it for fun though.

Random Saturday

-Eye Spy: This is cool. No other way to describe this. Someone took super high resolution pictures of eyes. This is really wild.

-Coffee shop business: If you haven't guessed by now I live in small town USA. We have two coffeeshops in town.....actually it's the same coffee shop (same owner, same name) but two locations....each with a different vibe (one of which is closed for renovations or some such thing). ANYWAY....since Tobiah has been going to day care two days a week I've been using my afternoons on those days, reading and working at one of the coffee shops. Please explain to me why people feel a coffeeshop is their own personal office. A guy the other day was making phone calls to clients, his insurance company, his close friends....talking loudly....can't you rent out a store front somewhere for this?

-Youth pastor goatees- I've been saving this article for a Beard Day 2, but honestly I just don't care to talk any more about my facial hair. I find this blog post (Stuff Christians Like) incredibly funny....and probably parts of it pretty darn true judging by some youth worker events I've been to.

-Stuff - What is it about human beings that we want more stuff? I don't need another thing. Just food and shelter and I should be good. I've visited 3rd world countries. I'm fully aware of the poverty in our world. I completely understand the haves and the have nots. And still I see something and I instantly want it. Why? How do I go about stopping wanting what I don't need?

-Look a-likes - Every thought someone looked like someone else? How about an inannimate object? How about famous people looking like muppets? Yep. This is pretty funny stuff.

-Shot on goal - Last night a goalie in Division III hockey stopped 95 shots on goal. His team lost but he only let up 4. WOW. If you've never played goal you won't understand how significant this is. In the NHL if a goal makes 40 or 50 saves that is a shelling. 95 is ridiculous. To make matters worse, his team only had 11 shots on the other net.

-Go where there's nobody- Top 10 Interesting Abandoned Places. Ghost town? Abandon pod village? Weird amusement park? This list has it all. One is here in PA....who's up for a roadtrip. I'm in.

-Ads vs. Reality - Back when we had TV, I loved food ads. I love food anyway, but pictures of steaming food fresh from the kitchen was great. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. This post shows pictures of food ads and then the reality of what you get when you go there. Funny stuff.

I actually had this last week, but mis-labeled it in my bookmarks so I re-found it. I feel you need to watch it more than once to find the subtleties of it all....

Book Review: Red Letters by Tom Davis

If you're a follower of my blog, you'll know I've been slowly working my way through Tom Davis' book "Red Letters: Living a Faith that Bleeds". It's been slow going because I'm a slacker, I've been sick.....and this book kicked my butt and broke my heart again and again. There were days where I was almost afraid to pick it up because I knew I'd end up crying.....but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Let's start with the title. In a lot of Bible's they have the words that Jesus actually spoke, in a red type instead of the regular black. Tom points out several places where out of Jesus mouth came clear instructions for things He wanted us to do. That really is the center of the book.

The heart of the book is HIV/AIDS. What are we doing about this pandemic? Why aren't we doing anything or why aren't we doing more? He goes beyond this one issue and talks about the widow and the orphan, the poor, the homeless, etc., but he comes back to the HIV/AIDS crisis again and again.

Most of you reading this know my heart is still in Africa. Even after adopting twice, God hasn't changed my heavy heart for the continent of Africa. Because of that I think I read this book from tinted glasses. I tried hard to be as unbiased as possible, but he just spoke to my heart....and I can't be unbiased about that. I think though that Tom makes a lot of the same points again and again throughout the book, but takes different slants each time and uses some different scripture and stories so it stays pretty fresh.

By the end of the book Tom wants to see you do something. He doesn't lead you to exactly what that is, he allows you to figure that out for yourself. He has a giant list of resources that you can start with. He makes suggestions. He plugs his own programs (and you can't totally blame him for that right?), but he is clear to say that you need to do SOMETHING.

One of the things that Tom plugs and goes into detail explaining is his Five for 50 program, which I've linked to before. As a website, it's not very detailed. In the book he explains it much better.
-Basically commit to praying 5 minutes a day for people affected by HIV/AIDS as well as poverty and hopelessness.
-You spend 5 hours a week fasting about it.
-You give 5 dollars a month. (He suggests his five for 50 fund, but also just encourages you to give to ANY organization committed to fight poverty, AIDS, etc. that you choose).
-You spend 5 days a year traveling to countries affected by poverty and suffering to make a difference. He goes one step further to say that if traveling is not an option that you spend those 5 days locally impacting those in your community.
-The last step is the one I love the most. He suggests getting 5 people to join you on this big journey.

This book challenged me in a lot of ways. I tell my students that with knowledge comes responsibility. If you know something to be true, then you are also at least partially responsible for doing something about it. That being said, I'm not sure what I do with the information from this book. I've been trying to figure that out anyway, and this book didn't help me come to clear conclusions. It really only added to my broken heart.

Let me say this. I would HIGHLY recommend reading this book. It's challenging. I finished it last week and it's still bouncing around in my brain. I can guarantee that this will not be the last you hear on this matter from me. Go buy this book.....oh and remember that in buying it, you feed a child for a month!

Quick clarification

My comment on Saturday about growing old and technology was in no way intended to be a slam on people older than me. I fully recognize that there are lots of very techno savvy people who are my elder. I was making a broad generalization that most of these folks have become techno savvy intentionally.

I just found this MIT data on Facebook from 2007. They say that you see a boost in that last little quadrant only because lots of people claim to be 90 years old rather than stating their actual age.

My comment on Saturday was only a short thought that ran through my head. I like to be on top of technology and trends. I can't always afford to be part of trends, nor is it practical (Blackberry, Twitter, etc) but I wondered aloud if I would be able to stay on top of stuff as I got older. Would it matter to me. Sorry if anyone took that as a dig toward anyone older than me. It was not intended as such. I was trying to be self-reflective.

Tobiah health update/prayer

You may or may not remember.....but back in late October I posted telling you about Tobiah's hole in his heart. At the time the doctor didn't like the looks of it and gave us until January. If the hole didn't close they would need to do open heart surgery. Our appointment was schedule for next week....one week from today actually.

Tobiah however has constantly struggled with some breathing problems. He's constantly congested. He occasionally struggles for breath. We've been visiting the pediatrician every couple weeks. He's on several different breathing treatments. It's become silly. So last week the pediatrician referred us to two more doctors. Great. Just what I wanted.

Yesterday I took Tobiah to the ears nose throat guy here in town. For the record, I play hockey with him every Wed. night. Great guy. Even better doctor. After sticking a probe down Tobiah's nose to check things out (he LOVED that.....sarcasm) he feels that Tobiah has acid reflux. So he's like spitting up into his mouth or throat and the acid is hurting his throat/larnyx are enough that he's struggling to breath. So yet another prescription.

In the mean time we've had to push back our cardiologist appointment because Tobiah's breathing is so loud that they can't do a good read on him. That's frustrating because I just want that done. As a male, I just want things fixed. I look forward to the day when my biggest worry with Tobiah is that he hasn't picked up his toys when I've asked him to.

For as small as his little body is, he has a bundle of health issues going on. The joy is that, none of this affects his mood at all. He's a happy little boy. Yesterday at the doctor he asked, "so when he's really screaming does he have problems breathing?" I couldn't answer that question. Tobiah doesn't scream. He's a quiet little guy. Even with a weird thing down his nose, he was crying but not screaming. The assistant walked in about 15 seconds after it was done and asked the doctor if he was ready to do the nose thing......yeah we're done. "What? I didn't hear him. Usually kids cry for quite awhile afterward. Why is he done crying already?" Yeah that's just him.

Prayers are always appreciated...for Tobiah....and for us too.

1/19 Monday update

the weekend that was:
Once again this weekend can be summarized by snow, cold, cold, snow, and then snow and cold.
-Friday was FREEZING cold. Freezing is a bad way to put it. Well below freezing is more like it. -8 actually most of the day. As night approached it actually got warmer. Cold enough that after a couple errands with the boys we locked ourselves away. We had a "special movie night" for Corban......which means he gets to watch a movie (Finding Nemo this time) and popcorn.
-Saturday was stay cozy day. Marjorie declared it early in the morning. We all dressed in our comfiest clothing. Sweatshirts, flannel, fleece, etc. WARM was the key. Corban played outside for a good part of the morning. He loves the snow.
-Have I mentioned that we already had well more than a foot of snow and it snowed like blue blazes as the end of last week? yeah we have A LOT of snow now. It's well over Corban's knees....which is fun to see him run through it.
-Sunday morning was as normal as Sunday mornings can be. Sunday evening we ended up cancelling our YMCA program because of crazy snow and bad roads......plus the Steeler game was on...and most people wouldn't have shown up anyway. PITTSBURGH'S GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL.
-I had a hockey game last night. This was my team that I've been playing for off and on. Honestly at the beginning of the game, I didn't like our chances. They had 13 guys on their bench to our 9. We were without our best defensemen....it just didn't look good. Yeah we won 5-2. Great game. Our guys (and girl) played really solidly.

where i am at the moment: Home getting ready to leave for small group. It's been an odd day so far....I'm hoping the week doesn't continue in this vein.

on my to-do list this week: Well next weeks youth group is done already. I need to do some reading and get some stuff done I've been putting off. I need to get ahead in picking out worship music......OH YEAH....I'm officially the worship leader at our church.

procrastinating about: I do have a couple phone calls I need to make. I also have to order some stuff. Right this minute I'm procrastinating about getting us dressed and to the store.

book I'm in the midst of: I finally finished off Tom Davis' Red Letters book. I'm finally onto another book. I'm reading Francis Chan's book called Crazy Love. Francis was at the National Youthworker Convention in November. He was really good. The book thus far is really good too. He has a video introduction to each chapter online at www.crazylovebook.com. I like that because it's very multicensory.

music that seemed to catch my attention this past week: This past week I picked the hymn "Have Thine Own Way Lord" for morning worship. As we practiced it during worship team practice twice this week and as I played it on my own at home, I was moved by it's words. I found this story about it online.

Adelaide Pollard was depressed and thought that God had deserted her. She
had a great burden for the country of Africa and she believed that she
should go there as a missionary, but now as she was preparing to sail, it
was evident that the funds she needed could not be raised. That evening she
read Jeremiah 18:3,4, the story of the potter. As she read she believed the
story was her own. "Perhaps", she said, "my questioning of God's will
shows a flaw in life, so God has decided to break me, as the potter broke
the defective vessel, and then to mold my life again in His own pattern."
That evening she wrote the poem, which became the hymn, "Have Thine Own Way,Lord." Adelaide Pollard finally did minister for God in Africa. She would
speak publicly until she was 72 years old.
grand revelations this past week: I'm drawing a blank on this one......

how i’m feeling about this week:
I'm feeling good. I feel I'm out in front of the game already. Looking forward to see what's in store for me. Ready for some curve balls.

Random Saturday

-Wedded Bliss: I love Taco Bell. In fact I have a button that says so. I convinced a Taco Bell employee to give it to me back in college because we ate there so much. There are times in our lives where we need to draw the line though. Some people don't know how to do that. A couple recently got married in a Taco Bell. There are so many things wrong with this story I don't know where to start.....so I'll just leave it to you.

-Lag: I'm pretty positive that I have some sort of burn out from blogging. I can't seem to motivate myself these days. I either needed to keep doing the daily posts or maybe I shouldn't have done them to begin with. It's not like I don't have stuff to blog about.....I just don't.

-Awesome: I'm sure there's a statistic or a study somewhere that says we need positive influence in our lives to be productive....or something. Well if you find yourself needing a pat on the back. Here it is. Because....you're awesome.

-I like hockey: I know this seems like an obvious statement....and it is. I play hockey as a tension release.....to exercise....whatever...sometimes I forget that I like the sport. I played a great game last week and had fun at my mid-week pick-up. As I was driving home at midnight Wednesday I said out loud to myself in the car. "I really like hockey."

-Around the horn: Just pass the ball around the horn. It's good times. Pretty fun actually.

-Pressure cooker: Most everyone in America saw the news this week of the pilot who flew into some geese and then landed his plane on the Hudson River without anyone being seriously injured. Amazing story. They're still searching for the engines and the black box. All I know is that that pilot was a cool customer to land the plane like that. Do you think he gets a pay increase? Do you think he becomes an instructor on "how to crash land your plane?"

-Just Hear it: This is COOL! I almost posted this week just on this. Ever wanted to hear a song before you downloaded it. That 30 second clip they give you just isn't always enough. Why not listen to the whole thing? JUST HEAR IT. It's pretty cool. Search any song. Listen to it free. Legally. It's nice. You can also make your own playlist while you're there.

-Girl Scout Cookies: I'm a big fan of Girl Scout Cookies. The Thin Mint kind really kick my butt. In recent years I've been good about it, but there was a time when I was buying probably 20-30 boxes of Thin Mints. This past week a girl came to our door and we bought some. Just after that happened, I found this site that tells you how to make Girl Scout cookies yourself from the comfort of your own home. Yeah get on this!

-Old: Question for discussion purposes. I've mentioned that my mom is not the most technologically savvy person. She would admit that....so I'm not talking out of school here. Here's what I want to know. Marjorie works in a nursing home. There are some folks there who use the internet for e-mailing etc. But they're not the majority. How do I (we) stay connected enough that when we're 70 or 80 we're not completely out of the loop.....OR.....does it matter if you are out of the loop at that point? Cause I have to say I can't text worth a hill of beans.

No video this week. Tough luck.

Tic Tac's....free music....weird video

To be fair....I've always liked most Tic Tac's. I would never say that I've been obsessed with them. I've known some who are. I knew a girl in my drumline who ate tic tacs like mad. I actually have another student now who's pretty obsessed too. I just sort of like them. I tell you that because I didn't go looking for this stuff.

Let's start with the Tic Tac website. Nothing super amazing really. HOWEVER....you'll notice in the upper right corner there's a grid. It's really a way to navigate their site. If you click the middle left square, you'll be taken to a "what's shakin" page. If you enter your e-mail address they will send you a promo code. It's an instantaneous e-mail too. Apparently they have a deal with Sony BMG to give you free mp3's.....4 of them to be exact. Now there are only like 20 choices....but it's not bad music. I'm all about free stuff so I thought I should spread the wealth.

What actually got me into this at all was this really sweet video. I love stuff like this.

1/12 Monday update

the weekend that was:
-The weekend as a whole was full of SNOW. It started snowing mid-week and basically didn't stop. Also remember that I was sick most of last week as was Tobiah....so we weren't going anywhere.
-I had the boys Thursday and Friday and we just stayed in all day. One of the joys of parenting is I get to dress my kids. So since I was tired on Friday, we all wore "comfy clothes". It was super relaxed day.
-Saturday was more of the same except Marjorie was home. It was snowing at such a rate that after shoveling, we still couldn't go anywhere because the roads were covered. Talking to friends from Pittsburgh they had "2 or 3 inches" total. Yeah we had more than that on the roads AFTER they plowed them.
-By Saturday afternoon I was getting stir crazy. I took Corban tobogganing. And we use a real old-school toboggan. I then convinced Marjorie that it would be a good idea to brave the crazy snow and go out for dinner. While we were eating dinner it snowed 3 inches. I had to clean the car completely off. Good fun.
-Sunday went pretty smoothly. Pastor Mike is doing a series out of Romans. He was speaking how we are all the same.....sinful. That's a hard one.
-Sunday afternoon/evening Steelers won.
-Sunday evening was youth group at the YMCA. Good lesson time and some great small group action.
-I got a call after youth group to sub a late hockey game. It was the same team I subbed for last week (though you don't know that since I didn't do a Monday update last week) and we lost by a goal. This week........WE WIN!!!! 5-2. I played really well after the fist period. I was gloving everything.

where i am at the moment: Home next to a fussy Tobiah and a playful Corban. I love my boys. We're headed to the store in a minute.

on my to-do list this week: Tobiah is now being watched by a sweetheart of a lady two days a week just like Corban....so my week has opened up immensely and I can get a TON more done. I'm making plans to pick a bunch more music for the coming months, and get my youth lessons done as well. I'd like to say I'm going to do a lot more reading, but every time I say that I fail....so I won't.

procrastinating about: I do have a couple phone calls I need to make. I also have to order some stuff. Right this minute I'm procrastinating about getting us dressed and to the store.

book I'm in the midst of: Sickness means I curl up into a cocoon. No reading done. I'm finishing Red Letters today or tomorrow. I like the book, but I"m ready to be done with it....mainly because I can't wait to read the next book on my list.

music that seemed to catch my attention this past week: I haven't listened to much this week. Mostly I've had iTunes playing on shuffle....so lots of randomness. HOWEVER....I downloaded some music for Corban. Music from the movie CARS (or here) which he loves. So I really like "Life Could be a Dream" by the Mills Brothers.(link is in French...which Corban thinks is funny noises) Corban however continually wants to listen to "Real Gone" by Cheryl Crow because that's the music for the opening race scene....so we play that song and he races his cars around the house.

grand revelations this past week: I'm am always amazed at the human body....not always in good ways.....I can't believe how much mucus that Tobiah's little body can produce in the course of one day.

how i’m feeling about this week:
I think this week is a "get through it" week. Nothing major, yet not a sleepy sort of week. It's one of those weeks that you just do what needs done and look forward to the weekend.

Irony Again

My family is taking naps. I'm watching football online. I just saw a UPS whiteboard commercial. I noticed something I never noticed before. Funny. Ironic perhaps.

The music in the background....there's only about 30 seconds of it...and there's no lyrics. But in a UPS commercial...they're using a song by "The Postal Service". HA.

Random Saturday

-ADOS: At youth group last week the senior high boys got talking about ADD. One of the kids said, "I don't have ADD I have ADOS." What's ADOS? Attention Deficit Oooooh Shiney! (As someone who has legitimate ADD I found that pretty funny.)

-Political Whirlpool: Not this will matter to anyone....but it's frustrating when good blogs seem to get caught in the political whirlpool. I noticed in the past month or so that two blogs that I used to follow (not on my blogroll) casually, basically only talk about politics now. Either they say how great this new administration will be, or how horrible things are going to get. Too bad...you used to be a good blogger.

-Off the the Races: I use Firefox as my internet browser. At the top is a Google search engine in the toolbar. As you begin to type it has a small drop down menu that suggests what you could possibly be typing based on popular searches. I like racing that dropdown menu. I try typing so fast that it won't drop down before I'm done typing and hit enter. I'm a dork.

-Old Time Waster: It doesn't get much more random than this. If found this almost 4 years ago and I just rediscovered it. You just fly around and figure it out. There's no point. It's just fun. FLYGUY.

-Music Prep: This week I was sitting in our sanctuary playing music. I was sort of working, but mostly just spending some time worshiping and playing music. I had just finished playing the song Mighty To Save. It's a Hillsong....song. So I had my laptop there. I then clicked on my friend Andrea's blog. Guess what song popped up to play in the background?

-Red Dawn - Back in the day I was a little boy who liked to play with toy guns and shoot the bad guys. There was a movie called Red Dawn that rocked my socks. Communists invade the US and these teenagers are freedom fighters against them. So they're re-making it. Why do they have to remake all these movies? It was fine enough. There are lots of movies that were fine enough. Just be creative and make new movies.

-Overachiever - I was a Boy Scout. I even made the rank of Eagle. I loved Boy Scouts. It taught me a lot. As part of Scouts, you earn Merit Badges. For each rank you have to earn a certain number. Well I read this article this week....a kid earned ALL OF THEM! To get Eagle you only have to get 21. He earned 121.

-Retro Penguins? - Remember the days when the mullet rocked the NHL? Could we see the famed mullet return to Pittsburgh? It's possible. Jaromir Jagr (who's currently playing in the Russian hockey league KHL) said in an interview that if Mario Lemieux would ask him to, he would return to the Penguins and play for the minimum salary. He would play for $350,000. Personally I don't see it happening, but it might not be a bad deal for the Pens for the rest of the year if they could swing it.

In light of the above story:

Sick Days

Tobiah got sick this weekend. Marjorie got sick soon after. I got sick Sunday night/Monday morning.

I don't care one hoot about updating this blog right now. Sorry. Love you. Be back soon.

Random Saturday

I kind of like Random Saturday. I think I might keep it up somewhat regularly.

-Guitar chords: I was getting music ready for Sunday morning worship last week and playing my guitar. I realized this. I love the A7 chord on guitar. It's fun to play and sounds good too. I really like A7.

-Guitar nerd: Have you ever heard the song Hard Days Night by the Beatles? If so, then you no it starts off with a crazy chord. I mean crazy. This chord has been discussed and analyzed for years. What is that? Well a scientist used math to figure it out. It's not just guitars...somewhere in there is a piano.....or so he says.

-Shuffle: I like to use the shuffle feature on iTunes. I like to believe I have a pretty wide array of music and enjoy hearing the fun transition between some songs. Last night I had it playing while I did some dishes. Winnie the Pooh sang a song about climbing a tree for honey (something I got for Corban awhile ago) and was quickly followed by a spoken word interpretive reading of some of Psalms from The Message: Psalms project. Now that was a good transition.

-Fun at the beach: This link was used on Neotorama this past week. In the middle of winter, I don't mind thinking of the beach. This is the Top 5 Creepy Beach Sculputres to Scare Off Sunbathers.

-Bus Station Fun: Some folks in Toronto got bored waiting for the bus. So they built an igloo around their bus shelter. When I read that I literally laughed out loud. I like when adults do kid stuff spontaneously.

-My job: Not only are kids out of school, but college students are home...and at this point during break, everyone wants something to do. Tuesday night I took 5 girls to a hockey game. Wed. morning I took two high school students out for a 2 1/2 hour breakfast where I got to ask them tough questions. I went home and had lunch only to go back downtown and meet two college students for coffee and subs at Subway (for the record the coffee was from a coffee shop next door to Subway....does Subway even have coffee? and would you want to drink it?). I love what I do for a living.

Skippo

Yep I took a day off. I think I've earned that.

I liked blogging for a month. It turned out that a lot of things fell my way and I had plenty to post about. It was also good because I'm pretty sure there would've been some long periods of silence before and during Christmas.

The flip side is that because I knew I had to blog every day I spent more time reading other people's blogs and forcing myself to think a lot. So you could argue that I spent greater amounts of my month worrying about my blog instead of doing other productive things in the real world.

I won't be blogging daily in January. I've already decided.....and I skipped yesterday. However, in the process of blogging this past month I would like to believe I learned something about how to be a better blogger. I think that I will probably be posting more than I did ....say in January of 2008 when I only posted 7 times.

Thank you for everyone who's been supportive this past month. Mostly Matt and Tara who were also blogging daily...and everyone who posted a comment or e-mailed me...or linked to something I wrote this month. Thanks.
