Daily Picture
So last year 2010 on my birthday I randomly decided to try and take my picture every day. Now that sounds pretty self-centered and narcissistic. It's not. The point isn't just to take pictures of myself, but to take pictures of myself that represent my day....usually with people I'm with. It's more like trying to remember my day. We're good at remembering the super high's and lows in life, but we often forget the little things of daily life....so i wanted to remember more of those. Kind of a daily picture blog for myself.
And let's not kid ourselves...I have been far from perfect in remembering. I can't tell you the number of times I've been driving away from meeting with someone or doing something and said "DANG I forgot to take a picture!"
Every time I tell people I'm taking a picture with them they always ask what I'm "doing" with the pictures. The answer is......nothing. They're not on Flickr. They're not in a blog form. They're nowhere except my hard drive. The point wasn't for other people to remember. Also I don't want people spending time with me hoping to be my picture of the day. The chances of that happening are slim since only about 15 people read this blog...and probably less would check in with a side project....
I have few rules for my project....and they're flexible. One picture per day. They're almost all self taken. Some of the bigger group pictures aren't....but I try to get as many as I can myself. No re-takes....this means that once I've decided to take a picture for the day....almost always....that's the picture no matter what happens the rest of the day. I think I've only broken that once or twice.
So here are some thoughts I have on the last year + of taking pictures:
1. I am more and more amazed at how God places people into our every day lives. So many of my pictures took place because I stumbled upon people or had good conversations with individuals. It would be easy to say that it was all just random chance.....but there's NO WAY.
2. People are so self conscious. I usually ask permission before taking a picture. You wouldn't believe how many people have to ask why I would possibly want to take their picture with me and what I'm gonna do with it. Am I a threatening person? Do I look like someone who would blackmail you?
3. Getting your arm out of a picture you're taking isn't easy
4. Taking pictures of reflective surfaces without getting the camera (cell phone) in it is hard.
5. I have the same face in almost every picture......my smile is also my straight face.
6. I love pictures of my family. Great way to remember perfect moments
7. I love looking through these and remembering small moments. Love it.
Now for some pictures. Just a couple.
Interestingly enough, I played paintball on my birthday in 2010 and 2011. Last year it was with my friend Ryan for his bachelor's party (I married him and his lovely bride the following day). This year I dropped my wife off at the airport on the 17th and spent the day playing with some pump paintball friend in Pittsburgh.

Corban as a Pilgrim.....................and I snuck that other picture while we were at Mass.
OK I'll stop there. I wish I could share them all. there are so many good pictures. Maybe someday. If you're reading this....and I've seen you this past year....chance are you're in one!

Kicks....again
You will remember that last summer I got a pair of sneakers from my childhood. To refresh your memory. Those shoes are out of this world comfortable. So I've just kind of had my eye out for others. I'm not a shoe guy like my buddy J is. I find shoes to be about function.....but these are just so comfy I couldn't help myself. I snagged another pair....very different though. The new ones are canvas not vinyl. Still super comfy. Is there more ahead?

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner
So it doesn't take long hanging around my blog to know how big of a fan I am of Pitter Patter Art. She's a mom and artist who does lots of art stuff for adopting families. They've already adopted one little boy from Ethiopia and are waiting for #2 to come home. We had her do two plates for our boys for their Gotcha Day a couple years ago.

Commodore 64
This is one of the funniest stories I've seen in awhile and as it develops I just keep getting giddier. WARNING: it's a hockey story, but it's really worth staying with this one! (Jim)
So there's a guy named Mike Commodore. He's been in the league for awhile. He won the Cup with Carolina the year Buffalo should've beat them (Dang Jay McKee's leg). ANYWAY....he spent the last season or two in the minors because the team didn't want to pay his contract.
So he just signed with the Detroit Red Wings. That means he has the opportunity to change his number easily. The writer of the Yahoo Sports blog (Greg Wyshynski) started a campaign for Mike to change his number to #64. As part of the campaign Greg said he would donate 64 dollars to Commodore's favorite charity and encouraged readers to join him. Well Mike found out about the campaign and apparently thought it was a good one.
So in theory it's looking like the back of one of the Red Wings jersey's this season will read Commodore 64. If that isn't funny I don't know what is. I might actually want one of those jerseys!
