10 Opinions in a Row

A sports radio station I listen to does this from time to time.  I like it.  I'm using it....but making my own.  So...in no particular order.....created over a period of time.

1.  As many years as I've worked with teenagers, for some reason it always freaks me out when they have their first driving lesson.  You're not old enough to drive yet.  You scare me.  How can this be?

2.  Baby wipes are good for a myriad of purposes....and there's a good chance we'll have wipes around well after we have little kids that need them.

3.  When someone greeting someone you casually know....and they say, "Hey how are you?"  is there any other answer than "I'm good how are you?"  I'm sitting in the lobby of the YMCA and I've heard this exchange about 89 times in the last 10 minutes.

4.  When I brew coffee at home.....i can be drinking it out of a mug and loving it.  I pour that same coffee into a travel mug, and it instantly either loses taste or turns funny.  I don't like that.

5.  It is super frustrating to me when a good band covers a good song that was originally written by another band......and everyone only recognizes the cover.  I don't care that songs are covered....it's the listeners and youtubers that don't do research.  In the age of the internet, it literally takes less than 10 seconds people.

6.  I hate losing.  I used to be a bad loser, now I just internalize losing.  I hate it.  Losing sucks.  Losing is for losers.  When you're the goalie, and your job is to keep the puck out of the net....and you lose.....that means you didn't keep the puck out of the net enough.....so it's personal.  I hate losing.

7.  If I wanted to watch the Grammy's I would find a way to do so online.  I don't.  So having everyone posting their evaluations of everything on the Grammy's via Facebook was super awesome for my life (read this with dripping and soaked in sarcasm).

8.  While I'm bagging on Facebook trends......NO.....you are not James Franco.  No you're mental age is not 22...you're old.  No you're not a fairy princess.  You're not a country, you're not a comic book character or a muppet, or a Disney princess.  Stop taking this quizzes that mean absolutely nothing.

9.  I've always thought that the people who write greeting cards have to be failed poets and writers who are just looking to get paid.  I NOW believe that the people who write children's Valentine's cards are failed regular greeting cards people.  Have you read these things?  They are HORRIBLE.

10.  Why is it forty (four-tee), sixty (six-tee), seventy (seven-tee).....but it's not five-tee...it's fif-tee.  And it's not two-tee, it's twen-tee.  three-tee as well.  Makes no sense.

10 Opinions in a Row

In no order or importance.

1. The problem with Facebook is it makes everyone believe that their opinion is important and their voice should be heard. My 20th high school reunion was this summer....and it was murder trying to coordinate it because EVERYONE wants a say in how it should be done. In reality, a hand full of people should just do it and be done. You either go or don't go.

2. I found out that the word Pumpernickel comes from the Germanic words that roughly mean Devil's Fart or Demon Fart. That's awesome. I will never eat that bread the same way.

3. We needed to replace Marjorie's car. I did a lot of searching on Autotrader.com. When you run a search it's "default" results list the vehicles from highest priced to lowest. WHY? Who goes looking for used cars and thinks....I want to spend the most I possibly can. Why would your default offer the highest first? So silly.

4.  It's PUMP-kin.  Not punkin.  The only n that's in that word is at the very end.  Can we agree on this and say it the right way?

5.  Confession....I occasionally will have to do searches for old games that I used to play at youth group.  I like to confirm the rules etc before I do them.  BUT, it grinds my gears when I go looking for a good game, and the search results come up for a dumb online video game or a Xbox game with similar names.  So dumb.  A good active game gets beat out by mindlessness.

6.  I've seen this trend of mis-using a phrase.  Man-crush.  Man-crush is when a dude respects another dude in a non-loving sort of way.  When a girl likes a boy in a non-loving or loving sort of way....it's just a crush.

7.  Not that I really do anything that would warrant me having a Halloween costume.....but I really can't have one.  Unless I wear a mask.....there aren't many characters with facial hair like mine.   Jim "the Anvil" Neidhart perhaps....but I'm not going to be wearing a spandex wrestling outfit.  Nobody wants that.  A guy had a mask on that looked like me.....his costume was what I look like normally....nice.  Should I feel bad for my wife?

8.  I love my job......for so many different reasons......I really love the flexibility that I have with where I "work".

9. Why can't the NFL use material for their uniforms that doesn't show the sweaty nastiness of the players?  I totally understand that those guys are working hard and sweating it up.  But you don't have to choose colors or materials that accentuate it.  When a dudes butt is a different color than the rest of his uni....you're doing it wrong.

10.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  We live in part of the world that gets snow in winter.  It begins in October and November and goes to March/April and sometimes May.  If that's a problem, you know that there are parts of the country that get no snow.  But if you've lived here your entire life, how can you be shocked when you wake up in November and there's snow on the ground?  You should be more surprised that it's not a foot of snow rather than a dusting.

10 Opinions in a Row

I've mentioned before that I listen to Buffalo Sports radio 550 am while I"m driving around.  Their afternoon guys are good.  They do a segment called "10 opinions in a row" where they just talk about whatever they want.  I've decided to do my own series.  Things I don't wanna post on Facebook, but are too short to actually blog.  Here's the first installment.

1.  Chocolate Tootsie Pops are redundant.  I'm already getting chocolate from the tootsie inside....why do I need a chocolate flavored pop around it?

2.  Why is there such a thing as UnderArmor hoodies?  It's not UNDER anything.  I know it's a name brand.  I get it.  They made their money selling under gear.....but now it's just getting absurd.

3.  I don't care how buff you are, or how hot it is, put your shirt on, you're just walking down the street.  I kind of understand if you're running or working out, that you might take your shirt off....but not walking casually.  Also, for the record you actually get cooler if you leave your shirt on.  You pick up more radiant heat with your shirt off....and when you sweat your shirt acts as a cooling agent when the wind blows.

4.  Turn signals.  Use them more often.

5.  I love a good nap.  Not too short....those just make me more irritable.  Not too long, then I"m groggy.  Long enough that I wake myself up without use of an alarm.  Yummy.

6.  I've been watching Big Bang Theory online.  I'm not sure I'm going to make it through...it's funny but not crazy awesome.  ANYWAY....the last picture on the opening song is all the characters sitting on the couch eating Chinese food or Thai food.....and without fail it makes me hungry every time.

7.  In the past two or three weeks I've had several conversations with teens or young 20 somethings where we've been talking about learning something new.  And in almost every case, they have said, "I can't do that, I'm not good at it."  To which I've responded "and you never will be unless you work at it...this isn't something that just comes naturally to anyone."  Do people really think that they should be able to pick up a guitar and play it?  or pick up a football and throw a perfect spiral?  or be able to dance all the steps instantly?  Really?  Has our work ethic gone that far down?

8. In the movie (and book) "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" there is a babelfish that goes in your ear and helps you translate any language.  I wish I had one of those.  I've been watching the NHL playoffs online...and for whatever reason the best feeds this year are the foreign feeds.  Russian.  Italian.  Czech.  etc.  Except I don't understand a dang thing they're saying.  Except the occasional "Patrick Kane"  or "Pittsburgh Penguins".

9.  I don't think I will ever cease to be amazed at what people thing goes through my head just because I work for a church.  They preface what they say to me.  They clarify things because they think I know nothing about the "real" world.  They apologize for swearing...because I've never heard a curse word before.

10.  A month or so ago I was in Pittsburgh and went to a hockey store and tried on the newest line of goalie pads.  They literally would make me a better goalie.  The way they're designed would help cover areas quicker.  They're also the price of a cheap used car.  So is that good?  Is it good that I can buy less goals per season?
