Today is not just another Monday morning. Today is the last official day that I will be working for the N. Warren Presby Church. It's really just a technicality. My last youth group was last night. Today I have to just get a couple boxes out of my office, vacuum and re-paint some spots where paint came off the drywall.
What's next.....that's what everyone wants to know....well we're going to be spending some time in prayer. We'd ask that you join us in this.
It has been pretty clear how healthy a decision this has been. God continues to confirm it over and over and over again. Through amazing conversations with people, through potential opportunities that have only arisen in the past week, through weird daily study, etc.
I know I didn't grow up around Pittsburgh. I only lived around there for 8 years. Something deep inside me still resonates with the region though. I came across a quiz this week that confirms my Pittsburghness. So HOW PITTSBURGH ARE YOU? I ranked 99%.....not bad for someone who doesn't currently live there and wasn't raised there. I blame the ability to understand Pittsburghese on Dave Kelsch who's a real Pittsburgh boy.

Concert
My college years were a love/hate relationship......there were amazing things about Geneva and things that I just couldn't stand. Today is one of those few days that I wish I were still close to campus though.
Tonight Over the Rhine, David Bazaan (of Pedro the Lion fame) and Rachel Zylstra are playing on campus. Cost is only 16 bucks. I sure would like to see Over the Rhine and David Bazaan......at the same place at the same time no less.

Monday Morning Fluff
I still need to tell you about our Easter weekend because it was really awesome....but it's Monday morning and I'm sitting here with some coffee listening to Elmo sing and dance......I'm not sure how thought provoking that is.
I saw Global Incident Map on another blog this weekend. It's amazing. It's a Google maps hack so you can zoom in on things, grab the map and move it to where you want. You can also click on particular incidents to see what's going on. For instance there was a fake bomb reported in a school outside Pittsburgh this morning.....and radioactive material was stolen from a facility in Australia. I'd love to know how they keep up with all that news around the world to make this map happen
If you're not aware the NHL playoffs have been going on now or about two weeks. After living around Pittsburgh for 8 years it is hard not to be a follower of the Penguins. They had an amazing season. Most people didn't believe they'd even make the playoffs. But January or Feb. of last year I've been secretly rooting for the Buffalo Sabres. They're a young team that skates hard and score a lot of goals. Anyway.....the playoffs are rolling and the first round is just about over (the last game of the first round is tonight). With the playoffs comes.........the playoff beard. It's a hockey tradition that you don't shave until you either win the Stanley Cup or are eliminated. The best resource on the playoff beard is PLAYOFF BEARD DOT COM. There's even a player for the Carolina Hurricanes who won't cut his hair from the start of the season until his team is done! Fortunately for him, this year the Hurricanes didn't make the playoffs.
Finally......I saw this video a couple days ago and can't get it out of my head. I love the colors, the choreography, and the fact that it's a straight shoot....as far as I can tell. This is just a little different. I like that.

Ridiculous
Warning: The following is a reactionary statement stemming from this mornings sermon.
1. Jesus is pretty clear that to be a follower of his means that you will be persecuted. (Matt 10: 16, John 15:18, John 16:33) I don't read where if you follow him you will be successful. Jesus was pretty good at living like Jesus.....and the way I read the Bible is that he wasn't the most popular guy on the block.
2. Success isn't what we decide it is. And it sure isn't making money or from business. As Christian aren't we suppose to find our strength and success in God alone? (Psalm 62:5-8, Ecclesiastes 2: 18-23)
3. The teaching of Jesus aren't designed to be a checklist. In the Love chapter of I Corinthians it says that we can do lots of really rad things but if we don't have love we're loud noises. The point of what Jesus was teaching and what He did on the cross wasn't to make a checklist for us to follow and make sure we hit all the high points......it was to love HIM!
4. Eternal life. I'm not believing that the point was so that we can just get through this life to get to heaven. The point is to be living it NOW and when our physical bodies die we get to be there with Him. What's the point if we're just getting by? The whole "pie in the sky in the sweet by and by" seems a little bit too much like a bad marketing ploy.
Ok sorry.....just had to get that off my chest.

Two clips
Story: I've already mentioned The Plaza Restaurant. If you come and visit us (hint) chances are that we'll take you here. It's cute and very "Warren". Small town, family owned, great food, home-made pie daily, cheap prices. You'll remember I wrote previously that they are now serving a version of te Primanti Sandwich.
So two weeks ago we decided to go get pie. Not a meal, just pie. Well we're talking to Corban telling him the kinds of pies that there are. We mentioned that there was Apple. Now what you need to know is that he knows how to say the word Apple. He also somehow learned how to say Pie......but to this point has not said them together. So at the top of his lungs he says APPLE PIE.....and we started laughing because he says it funny.....so he says it again...and again, and again....at this point we're laughing so hard we can't tell him to be quiet. It's a small place. Everyone was looking, most were laughing at our little guy saying APPOO PIE......so when the waitress walked up she said, "I'm assuming he's getting apple pie?" Um....Yes.

This one is just Corban putting words together. Blue and Sky. He still says blue with a french flourish.

My New Roadie
Over the years of playing with Planet 612 we had a couple guys who gave us a hand with our gear. Since the dissolve of the band it's been hard getting someone to carry my guitar around to lead worship......that and it's just weird having a roadie for your guitar....UNTIL NOW.

Back in action
I'm back in action after a little hiatus. My Dell laptop is history. Toast. Ka-put. Something had to give. I am now living in Mac world. I did some poking and prodding on some friends Mac's and decided to make the switch. But you know me.....Mr. Frugal. So I e-bayed it....brand new sealed in the box.....and saved a couple hundred dollars. Now to figure out how to use this thing. It's going good so far....some distinct differences between this and a PC though.....I'm sure there will be continual posts from my adventures in Mac land.
I have tons of cool things to share about Corban. Too much probably. I'll try spreading them out over a couple posts in the next couple days. I have some fun videos too. (Tammy two of them are only 10 seconds long which are probably watchable for you!)
David Crowder fans......you probably already know this....but the DCB is recording a new album. You can watch them do it live. They have webcams set up all around the barn they're recording in. Granted you can't hear the sound, but it's cool to see the process at times. They also are posting "best of" clips on YouTube for every day of recording. Ted Nugent even
stopped by to record a little ditty on the new album!!!! Good times.
I stumbled onto this the other day too. It's a little freaky. Basically this person created a giant Leggo church. You really need to follow the link and look at all the pictures. It's basically complete. You can view the inside from various angles. She even wrote a sermon that the "Leggo pastor" would preach. I'm not sure if I'm impressed or horrified.

RATHER LARGE ANNOUNCEMENT
I submitted my resignation from the N. Warren Presbyterian Church last night. I love the people of the church and particularly the students I have served the last 6 3/4 years.....I just don't want to work there anymore. I will carry on through the end of April to allow them to figure out what comes next. I don't have anger or animosity or anything toward the church, I'm just pushing back from the table. There is a tremendous sense of relief that accompanies this decision. As most of you know I have been extremely stressed the past year or more. This has affected my Spiritual life and my family. Ultimately that was the decision.
What's next? I'm still employed part-time by the Pleasant Community Church. I don't know what if anything else I"m going to do. Nothing immediately..,......except tickling my son a lot.
