Famous
I just realized I don't think I ever posted this. Back in the fall Corban's Kindergarten class walked to the fire department. This was in our local paper. I love it because he's so intense. The other kids pictures are posted in the hallway of the school....sorry, but the other kids are woosy about it. Corban's rocking it out.

Backlog: Hockey tournament
I figured that I haven't blogged life for awhile so I should do some "Backlog" posts of some events. I'm starting with this one because I mentioned it in a recent post about Ryan Smyth and some questions were asked.
So in August of last year a hockey buddy of mine asked if I'd like to play for a team he was putting together for a tournament they have every year at our rink called "The Summer Sizzle". My buddy, Mike, is a really good player and I know the teams he puts together are full of really good guys so I said yes.
So the tournament started Friday night....but we didn't have our first game until Saturday morning at 7am. Let me say that it is INSANELY hard to get up and get motivated to play hockey at 7am. I intentionally woke up early to be awake, eat, and drive to the rink. It wasn't until I got into the locker room before I realized how good our team really was.
We played our first game against a team that looked pretty young and fast (during warm-ups). Our captain said they were tough last tournament and should give us a run for our money. We beat them 8-1. No run for our money.
Game two was the team that was really suppose to be tough. They had won the tournament last time. It turned out that most of the team was girls/women. No please don't get me wrong, there are some amazing women hockey players....but women competing against men just didn't work here. This team was good they never stopped skating and were feisty as all get out.....but they just couldn't match our grit and toughness. We win 5-2. One of our guys angers a girl enough at the end of the game that a fight broke out. YIKES.
Game three was Sunday morning at 10am.....yes I skipped church. I know I'm a heathen. I'm pretty sure God knows where my priorities in life are and it's not on hockey. This game was pretty much a throw away for us. We had already made the championships later that day. The team we were playing was from Canada. If they beat us handily, they made the championships too. They were good....but didn't try. They just wanted to go home. They had a kid who played juniors and some really fast forwards, but they just didn't want to stick around. So we won 6-3.
Finals....we somehow play the team we played first (the 8-1 game). Apparently they didn't have all their guys for that first game and had played better throughout the tournament. This game was pretty anti-climactic for us. We knew we were going to man-handle them....and we did....but not as bad as last time. Final was 5-2....however it should've been 5-1...their second goal was clearly kicked in. The ref wouldn't call it because he was feeling bad for them and said he didn't see it. No way did he put that puck past me off his stick!
So we get a trophy. I had gone over to shake the ref's hands for reffing and they hand it to me. Most of our team was already in the dressing room because they didn't care. No one actually wanted to take it....so they made me take it home. I've never won a trophy in my life. Corban was pretty excited for me. So now I have a trophy in our basement above our washer. I'm a winner.
